“God’s voice, what does it actually sound like?
I never hear a voice.”
That is a frequently asked question from people we meet.
Can God speak with a voice that you hear with your natural ears? Of course!
Is that the way God usually speaks to people? No, God often speaks in your thoughts.
If the Holy Spirit lives in you, then it is inevitable that you have indeed heard God’s voice several times. Your spirit lives in you with your thoughts and God’s Spirit with God’s thoughts. And if you are not aware of that, then you think that everything you think are your own thoughts and that both thoughts sound the same. When you pay attention and practice with it, you discover that God’s voice sounds different than your thoughts.
Will there will be a moment that you always know when God is speaking and that you always hear Him 100% correctly? No, unfortunately. Creation has fallen and that is why it says:
Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture!
1 Corinthians 13:9
That should not stop you from wanting to learn to understand His voice, because a little later it says:
Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives—especially the ability to prophesy.
1 Corinthians 14:1
That sounds a bit heavy, but if you speak out what you hear from God, then you are already prophesying. Faith is not as complicated as it seems.
Danger and melted electronics
Understanding his voice is super useful when you want to “do only what you see the Father doing” as Jesus said several times (John 5:19). Because you actually receive an answer from God, you can live according to what God has in mind for you. What He wants you to do and where you go.
Understanding His voice is useful when someone is walking around with pain in his body or with physical complaints, because God knows exactly what the core of the problem is.
Understanding His voice is really a solution for (almost?) everything. God can keep and protect you too.
A while back Jesse and I walked out of our camper, when Jesse got in his mind that he had to go back to the camper because otherwise there would be a fire.
To be honest, Jesse didn’t recognize Gods voice at that point. He waved it away that he shouldn’t scare himself so much. Two days passed, but it still crossed his mind. Until he went to take a look at the camper to be sure.
He got into our camper and immediately he strongly smelled the smell of burned electronics!
The charge controller for the solar panels had apparently been smoldering for a long time, but fortunately we were on time otherwise the camper would have burned down!
Thank you God for warning us and for often being so patient with us!
